I'm not sure about Trevor's model. I looks like an old fashioned design and make unit with prescribed outcomes that has a bit of research on the side. But in the interests of encouraging discussion and debate, here it is. Let me know what you think.



























Alberta Model of Inquiry

It's a really sound resource and covers how to build a culture of inquiry, their development of the inquiry model, how to design and teach each of the phases of inquiry as well as the underpinning research behind the inquiry process. A good resource to have available for those moments when you need ideas. Click on the image and it will take you to the pdf on the website.

Jeni Wilson and Kath Murdoch Model


This short and very readable article by Kath Murdoch and Jeni Wilson outlines Inquiry Learning, what it involves and how to go about it. I strongly recommend you download this article and read it - several times. It will answer a lot of your questions about the things that may be blocking you at the moment.

They describe the inquiry process in a nutshell as:
  1. Problem or question
  2. Hypothesis
  3. Data collection and analysis
  4. Drawing conclusions
  5. Making generalisations and reflecting
  6. Authentic action

Jeni and Kath firmly believe that the planning is driven by the understandings sought and your knowledge of the students' understandings. They also believe the content must take the students beyond what they already know as well as developing lifelong skills.
